Abstract

The article examines the poem “Andalusia” of the Egyptian poet Ahmad Shawqi. A.Shawki wrote this work while in exile in Andalusia, referring to the Andalusian poet Ibn Zaydun's “Nuniyya”. When the Andalusian poet Ibn Zaydun wrote this poem, he left Cordoba, leaving behind his beloved poetess the Princess Wallada bint al-Mustakfi (the daughter of the last Umayyad Caliph of Cordoba), his wounded heart and political fame. The Egyptian poet Ahmad Shawqi also left his relatives, friends and sick mother in Egypt during his exile and left his high position in the Khadiv castle.
The Egyptian poet, who created his own individual way in the new Arabic poetry, managed to reach the depths of Ibn Zaydun's poetry with the poem “Andalusia”, giving it a different look, a new image and personal style. When we look at these two poems, which are the object of research, we see that Shawqi fully mastered his own poetry, instilled in him the spirit of his time. Using the work of the Andalusian poet only as a model, Ahmad Shawqi created a beautiful example of literature that is not inferior to him in beauty, description and content.
